Away from the noise of the city, the residence is nestled among the olive groves of Yağcılar, Urla, and conceived with an approach that seeks to coexist with the land without disrupting its topography or existing vegetation. The two-storey building establishes a connection with the soil and the region’s traditional architectural character through natural stone cladding at ground level, while the plastered and painted upper floor transforms into a lighter, more understated volume that opens towards the landscape and sky.

The ground floor brings together the entrance, kitchen, dining, and living areas within a fluid spatial configuration. The main living space extends towards the semi-open living area and terrace through large sliding glass doors, blurring the boundary between interior and exterior. Surrounded by olive trees, the courtyard becomes an extension of the house. The texture of the natural stone and the interplay of light and shadow reference the traditional building culture of the Aegean, while timber ceiling finishes and concealed lighting bands create a warm and tranquil interior atmosphere.

The upper floor represents a more private layer, comprising bedrooms, dressing rooms, and bathrooms arranged around a central hall. Rising above the natural-stone-clad ground floor, this plastered and painted volume adopts a lighter and more restrained character with its pitched roof, reinterpreting the traditional hipped-roof silhouette through a contemporary architectural language. The terrace connects directly to the bedrooms, strengthening their relationship with the surrounding landscape.

The material palette combines natural stone cladding on the ground floor, simple plastered surfaces on the upper floor, and timber finishes throughout the interiors, bringing together a strong connection to the regional identity with a modern, minimalist sensibility. Library niches, the fireplace surround, and solid timber furniture enrich the living spaces, reflecting the house as a place not only for dwelling, but also for gathering and retreat.

Yağcılar House proposes a contemporary Aegean residence situated at the rural-urban threshold of Urla, defined by its direct relationship with the landscape, material authenticity, and continuity between interior and exterior spaces.
